I cannot imagine a more rewarding job!  This was my husband’s idea a few years ago, and here we are going into our fourth year at Little Bear Day Care, Inc.

I am a Pennsylvania native and how I ended up Bruceton Mills is a long story.  My husband’s job required him to travel, so we have lived in Colorado, Texas, and Virginia before settling in West Virginia.  We love it here, as we are “outdoorsy” people and enjoy the beautiful sunsets from our back porch!  We have two wonderful children.  My daughter is in sixth grade and my son is in eleventh grade.

I have always enjoyed variety, so each step of my careers has led me down a different path. I hold Associate Degrees in Legal Assistant (Central Penn Business School), Word Processing, and Business Management (both from Pennsylvania College of Technology).  Later in life, the medical field interested me, so I pursued a certificate in Medical Transcription and worked at Ruby Memorial Hospital (not in transcription, but in another capacity).  I worked there for almost three years and then left in order to get this business up and running.  I also have eight years of experience in the secretarial field and three and a half years working in human resources.

My daughter has been active in Girl Scouts for approximately six years.  Out of those six years, I have been a Girl Scout Leader for two.  I should actually say that my scouting leadership started when my son was a Cub Scout in Virginia.  I assisted the leader and ended up sleeping in a tent by a river overnight!  I also learned a lot about the Pinewood Derby.  I have also been a Sunday School teacher for four years.  I guess it is very hard to get away from being involved in children’s lives.  I believe in being a positive influence and instilling good, moral values in young children.  I am registered on the STARS Career Pathway.  I have completed the West Virginia Infant/Toddler Program, and you will see me most of the time in the Infant Room, if not “buried” in paperwork in the office.  Our center is a member of the Preston County Chamber of Commerce, and is proud to have been named “New Business of the Year” in 2008.

I am very fortunate to have the caliber of teachers working here at Little Bear that I do.  I think of us as a team and respect their opinions in the daily undertakings.  I could not do this without them!  I believe that it takes everybody working together and communicating in order to provide the best possible care for each and every child attending Little Bear.
