Little Bear Day Care, Inc. - Where Your Little Bear's Adventure in Learning Begins

Miss Sherry
Director

I grew up in southwestern PA and graduated from Waynesburg College with a degree in elementary education.  I taught in PA after graduation (in my hometown district) for 3 years until I got married and moved near Lewisburg, PA where I taught for another 4 years.  We then relocated to the Cumberland, MD area where I taught for 2 years, and then decided to be a “stay at home” mom to my son, and then a few years later, my daughter.  I often found myself “volunteering” at my children’s nursery school whenever they needed extra hands because I was truly amazed by what they were learning at such an early age.  I later became a substitute there working with the two and four year olds.  Once I started working with younger children I realized that I would probably never go back to the public schools.  We moved in 2004, hopefully our last move, to Hazelton, WV, where we have been for the past 5 years.  Once my daughter went to kindergarten, I came to work at Little Bear.  I have been at Little Bear since the doors opened in September 2006.  I spent a year working with the four year olds before moving to Director in 2007.  I continue to take a variety of trainings as often as possible to learn new things and I am currently enrolled in the WVIT program with a completion date of Feb. 2010.  I truly love my job, I love the kids I work with, the parents, and I am very proud to have the best staff around.  When I’m not at work, I miss being there!

In my “free time” I enjoy reading and rubber stamping.  I wish I had more time to do both.  My husband and I have a 12 year old son (soon to be 13) and a nine year old daughter which keep us busy.  We share our home with a Weimaraner dog, Bergen, a Siamese cat, Carly, and a black and white cat, Zoe.  Some of my favorite things include: the color red, buttered popcorn, the beach, a good movie, lattes, and sleeping in on Saturdays.  Some things I don’t like are: snakes, scary movies, mornings, storms, and cold food.  My favorite movie of all time is “Urban Cowboy” (go ahead and laugh) and my favorite t.v. show is “Grey’s Anatomy.”

My goal for myself is to see the glass as “half full” even though it’s easier to see that it’s “half empty.” As a mother, I hope that my children learn from their mistakes, are open-minded, willing to try new things, and have empathy for others.  As a teacher, I want to instill a love of reading and books, and I want the children I work with to have good memories of their time spent at Little Bear.
